Absolute Trancelucent
Various Artists
The eurotrance crossover has never felt so disarmingly real as it does here.
Trancelucent are, without doubt, a major label and one who have carved their own sound, before feeding it and making it one of the more popular styles worldwide; but this may or may not be a good thing. System Nipel’s melody is cringeworthy, Etic combines unfetta’d cheese (geddit) with poor stopstart, and the breakdown on Noga’s remix of The Misted Muppet’s Spiritual Visions will have you with your head in your trance-by-numbers hands.
Those tracks that aren’t cheesy are dull: Insomnia’s Minister Of The Beast is a masterstroke in the unrealisation of anything, Quantum’s Hotpot is barely there and Visual Paradox vs Insomnia’s Trancelucid is Trance Flacid. Not even Loud’s Go Go can save the day; very watery stuff.
Bog’s mastering is, as usual, thin and crispy and given that psychedelic music should be decidedly deep pan, I’m fingering this as the key problem here. It sounds disposable, it sounds ethereal, it sounds weak. Far from essential.
