Tickets
I don’t think it’s just me who’s found the South African sound to be a tad less engaging recently. Where in previous times you could rely on those chaps to deliver the goods, the spark seems a bit harder to ignite recently. Tickets’ debut album follows some impressive compilation releases, but somehow it doesn’t smack us about like we all want it to.
Tickets is a little schitzophrenic, with two sides to his musical personality: dark and melodic. When these two come together well, they work brilliantly: Existence works wonders and Showtime is tight and punchy. Then other times is goes so wrong: Tinnitus and Phantom start out as sure winners until the chord progressions take a turn for the worse and you’re left cringing.
The bare bones of Deficit Disorder see him at his best: brooding, bubbling energy coupled with tight, shitkicking beats.
