Brand new release from a brand new label – and I only need mutter that label manager Paul is ex-Deviant Species, and if I imply through the medium of a shocked expression that he records as Neural Rectifier Syndrome and, alongside Scorb, makes up the much-vaunted RAM, then you probably know what to expect – huge, crunching, sonic psychejuggernauts, with the volumes being modified so it can go up not to eleven, but to twelve. Damage’s FunkyBeats kicks us off, a hardhouse/psy gap-bridger with Chuck D samples and a lively rhythm. Halfway through, the bass drops a handful of fathoms and it gets more psy – great free party stuff. Scorb’s Kakah Tooki is rolling, effortlessly breathy stuff… with a crazy, hilarious sample that has to be heard to be believed. Icebreaker’s Patron of Pot has an acid tekkers groove to it, seriously punchy and atmospheric; while Tenzing vs NRS’s Robot O Me thunks in like a case of stella at an afterparty, and behaves just as raucously. RAM’s Liquid Lunch breaks the pace up a touch, a deeper tune with subtle movement but that still delivers. Just as well for the respite, as things get pretty meaty from here on out! Broken Toy’s Absolutely (Scorb Rmx) is seriously fing delightful, one of the best tunes of the year. It’s melodic but gnarly, it’s original yet accessible, twisty but fluid… one of the kickin’est samples ever heard and its levels are perfect for long, drawn-out mixes. Yum. Scorb comes back with Phibian, an utterly delightful and manic romp through scorb territory, the main run is utterly fing awesome, and it’s a great tune for waking up to in the morning when you’re running late for work. FEG vs NRS’s Unbreakable is hard as nails, and gorgeous… not for the faint-hearted, but tastier than a fifteen-story Belgian waffle with a lake-sized order of golden syrup on the side. Finally, NRS comes back for one final stomp with Resurge, and it f*ing throws shit at you.. more refined than previous NRS output, but it still knows where your G Spot is. This is a serious start to a new label’s output, it’s an astonishing collection of chunky, gritty stuff that – hopefully – will herald the start of UK trance's final movement away from neo-fullon junkfood McThrowaway trance. Top marks to all involved.
