(ed)

Ethnic electro here from Israel, and Yuval K.dar sets down the beats for vocalist Dganit Daddo who's star(fish?) is a multi-talented actor. Apparently. So what we got? Well the vocals are soaring and ethnic, just like it says on the tin, and the beats are for the most part, er...'upfront' shall we say. Don't Cry makes we want to, hence the name maybe. Sometimes takes a heady cathedral atmosphere and takes a metaphorical piss on the bishops cassock with a hyper-funky bass and swirling fx but then breaks into quite a nice phat-beat number. Ovadia enters the realm of incomprehensible track names and cheese heavy Atari synth sounding crap that sounds like it was knocked up in about half an hour by jiggling some knobs that the perpetrator didn't quite understand on a demo setting - this is only sightly redeemed by the not-quite-synched-properly ethno-string samples and then a horrendously off-pitch vocal straight from the brown star makes you cringe and throw things at the CD player for being flatter than Homer Simpson's sofa after a donut eating marathon. You get the impression that the vocalist is attempting to pull off quarter tone shifts but fails dismally, falling instead a semi-tone flat in relation to the electronic accompaniment. Hora Staccato is quite nice chilled ambient but some pretty nasty key changes spoil all that. Sketch goes four-four and you really wish it hadn't. New Start is just that and some phatty beats combine with a much more pressingly psychedelic feel that produce a halfway decent tune that merely skirts the borders of cheddar land. Addapartolist features some of the best vocals yet but when the cheap plonky bassline kicks and nothing else changes for about 17minutes (no, not really) you get bored. Apocalypse leaves you wishing it would hurry up and get here, and Zman brings us thankfully to the end with actually some quite nice guitar work.Yuval is clearly a talented producer and some of his tunes hint at what might be. Equally the vocals have some great moments and show great range and power of voice. But unfortunately the whole package of tunes leaves me feeling audially violated.

ONE GLASS OF SOYA MILK AND THAT'S ONLY BECAUSE THEY WERE NEARLY DEAD OF THIRST AND IF THEY THINK THEY'RE GETTING ANY FLAPJACK THEN THEY'RE VERY MUCH MISTAKEN
