Ocelot Aural Sects Strange Attractor / Ceiba

The US still seems (to me anyway) to be a right old melting pot for electronic music. Hence you can expect the boundaries to be not so much ignored as deconceptulised, taken out of existence for the purposes of recording an album before they’re hurriedly put back in place so nobody notices. Aural Sects has that feel of ‘proper’ music behind it, and the attention to production details suggests this is maybe more in keeping with dub traditions than trance; still, the effect is pleasant. The textures are experimental, half-melodies rise and fall – it’s very fluid stuff indeed, dripping lysergic. Fans of more straightforward fullon are advised to try before they buy, as while this music is jolly clever, that’s no necessarily to everybody’s taste. However, when it all comes together and ignites – as it does on Flight – it’s blistering.
