I put this CD on, went for a shit, and when I came back it seemed like the whole room had been transformed into a mental kaleidoscopic psychedelic vortex thing. And a quick skip back to the start of track one, Nomads Mental Shock, reveals that you dont need to go for a shit for that to happen: in no more that 56 seconds, its taken you from standing still to 100000 miles per hour and increasing, as possibly the best opening agenda-setter of a tune escalates further and further. Nomad chucks everything at this one, and it works a treat big, fat, heavy, snarling the breakdown comes in like a false finish, with a wonderful melody form out of nowhere before it drops into a killer f***ing groove thatll have you jumping six feet off the ground. Absolums No Rush is, I think, a song about losing your erection because of having eaten all the magic mushroom vol au vents intended for the dope dealers convention after-party; its a wibbly, fucked up monster all the way through. Haunted Chip from Central Processing Unit is killer, and Deedrahs Reload (Live Mix) puts a good sheen on a tune that, lets face it, still rocks bigtime. Cosmochaos Landmass Vibration as a devilishly-set sub bass stab that comes with the kick, and layers a dark, hectic trip over the top kind of a more sinister GMS while Talamasca vs Yuman & Ben-J come up with the more playful, fiddly 3 Smoking Gorillas, more fluid and less banging, and the way the melodies all fall into place together is sublime. Orion takes things back into the dark and swirly vortex: Tripod being a smooth and effortless bashfest of delightful proportions. The yummy Mosquito City from Nomad vs. Beat On Fobia takes Nomads direct, no bullshit approach and adds a more thoughtful undercurrent with sounds developing nicely until a huge anthemic melody sets the fireworks going off in all directions. Silicon Sound close the album with Digital Thought, a reflective and deep killer thats perfectly produced for the end-of-night moments when the suns threatening to come up blissful stuff, and worth a place in any DJs box. Blistering stuff then, and 3D Vision reclaim the fullon crown once again. While its full-blown proper psy, theres also a nice array of tricks and explorations that sets this above the formulaic 4-4 mulch out there.
