Charismatix Society FX / Up And Down Society FX (Germany)

What’s great about psytrance is that you can find artists on all sorts of labels, and these sort of fresh-releases-on-fresh-label-by-new-artist are always worth checking out. Society FX is a bouncey, house-flecked bit of trance with an easy, quasi-twostep feel. There’s a cheeky, perfect atonality at play between the bassline and the next layers, which keeps one foot firmly in acidland and adds more colour through the epic uber-breakdown. It fades rather than peaks which suggests a big crossover hit, and one to listen out for at progressive nights. Up And Down is more psychedelic, with a tasty couple of accents missing in the 16th bassline, filtered vocal samples and some rather demonic stabs. Despite the cinematic, american-werwolf-in-london vibe, it’s quite low set and might need to be nudged up a bit for the psychedelic crowds. Nice, different, ballsy stuff.
