Necton Children of the Noizy Village Plusquam (Germany)

Bit of an oddity this one, and if you were ever after an album to baffle and amuse your future offspring when they plunder your CD collection in however many years time, this is it. If you know Necton’s Beverly Hills Cop, you’ll know they’re not the most conventional of artists, putting the ‘mental’ into experimental and not afraid to have the mick taken out of them in the playground. Children Of The Noizy Village is a concept album, sort of telling a story, sort of getting funkier as the album progresses, and sort of leaving you enriched in a kind of Tolkein-trance sort of way. The Awakening showcases their love of a particularly unforgettable voice effect that resurfaces through the album, and jut when you think you’ve picked up an old Gong offshoot prog-rock monster, sub-aphex twin beats tickle your underneath with style. Noizy Family is twisted breakbeat with a deep jungle sub, with cute melodies drifting in and out. Bug Squad Dub is probably the most psychedelic dub ever produced, with plenty of shifting and classy stoned delays, and Submachine marks the start of the album’s 4-4 dancefloor section, which starts out almost disappointing given the sweet introduction but, give it time and it turns into a nice bubbly groover with good melodies and a nice progression. Swamppeople is organic-minimal and Funkfactor is stripped-down magnetised trance. Nature Nation is hard, yet fluffy with playful and lazy 303’s, the quantize is at a quirkily perfect level to keep that grin firmly in place. Porno Poltergeist is a nice slice of techno-trance hybrid stuff that’s suitable for all dancefloors, and Muddyterranian completes things providing a nice 2-step / breakbeat return to (ab)normality. It’s a genuinely different album, with plenty happening, and it should keep everybody happy and paranoid all summer long.
