Gong You ReMixed Gliss (UK)
Gong You ReMixed Gliss (UK)
Stalwart psychedelic nutters Gong occupy a special place in the trance scene, influencing pioneers like System 7, Hallucinogen and Doof, and their operatic albums pitch between a rock-based psychedelic circus and a mushroom-friendly experiment into how far the musical envelope can be stretched before it snaps back in on itself. 1997s You Remixed sets a splattering of electronic artists to work on reinterpreting the originals, and its nice stuff: The Orb, 808 State, Astralasia and The Shamen appear alongside Total Eclipse, Youth and Doof. Full of waterfall ambient moments as well as 4-4 delights, this is well worth a sniff and stands up as a good addition to the Gong cannon as well as a cheeky deviation for your trance collection. And still available, via Gas in Glastonbury, UK, or www.planetgong.co.uk.

Seriously we found out this week that some b*gger was selling our reviews to a couple of v.corporate behemoths with brand new bandwagon-jumping "lifestyle" sites. No problem if you want to use them on your own site, or whatever, but please don't sell these reviews (and especially not to huge nasty corporations with dodgy human rights records.)
