Gong You ReMixed Gliss (UK)

Stalwart psychedelic nutters Gong occupy a special place in the trance scene, influencing pioneers like System 7, Hallucinogen and Doof, and their operatic albums pitch between a rock-based psychedelic circus and a mushroom-friendly experiment into how far the musical envelope can be stretched before it snaps back in on itself. 1997’s You Remixed sets a splattering of electronic artists to work on reinterpreting the originals, and it’s nice stuff: The Orb, 808 State, Astralasia and The Shamen appear alongside Total Eclipse, Youth and Doof. Full of waterfall ambient moments as well as 4-4 delights, this is well worth a sniff and stands up as a good addition to the Gong cannon as well as a cheeky deviation for your trance collection. John Bomble's weekly show Global Chillage, broadcast on 1350am throughout Cambridge (UK) on Saturday's from 5-6pm (GMT).
