Spun Records

From Michigan-based Spun Records comes this compilation put together by that relentless Dutch duo, the Growling Mad Scientists. Unsurprisingly, the Scientists have had an influence in more than half the tracks here, and there are no real surprises with the rest of the lineup. If you've heard any recent GMS or 3D Vision releases then you shouldn't expect anything new from this release, it's wall-to-wall party tracks, always hovering close to the 145 bpm mark and always full of squelches, squeaks, and samples. Tracks that stand out for me are the remix of Psychopod's Frankie's Farm (by GMS, no less), which combines the heavily psychedelia of the Koxbox guys with the party sound of GMS, resulting in a nice power morning stomper, and Synthetic's The Mummy is a killer, although already featured, and much played, on TIP's Assassi:Nations compilation. If you're not familiar with the GMS/3D Vision party sound, this release would be a fine introduction to it. If you are, then only pick this one up if you're a determined collector. -Tom- 2
