Loopus in Fabula - Demon Tea

3 Italian Duo Loopus in Fabula are volatile. Or "highly fucking volatile" to be precise. This CD, which should carry a health warning of some sort, is music to hurl yourself at the walls of your padded cell to. Its synthesis of psytrance, house, disco, funk and probably a lot else besides is a lysergic casserole of styles, shifting sounds, and changes at every corner. Purutu is a fluid track that like a lot of this album captures the REAL trip feeling of concepts and perspectives morphing all around you. A totally fucked up tempo crash, dropped beats all over the place and funky stabs throughout. Pezzachio is a psychedelic videogame with elements of gluesniffer punk, and Popeye is like the poor chap at the party who's done far too much that night. Robopope builds up the tension nicely before splitting in on itself, using offset melodies to add to the mayhem, and Can-D is about three songs mashed together. By and large, this is visual listening music, more for sitting back with a spliff to than going mental on a dancefloor to. Only the remix of Kiwa's The Looper hits you on that gut level that makes you want to move: a killer bassline over out-there beats, funk-drenched filtered guitars and an awesome background hammond make for a totally addictive and daring tune. Otherwise though, while very impressive and grinningly tickly, it's a case of sit down, tune in, and flip out.
